Project Spotlight: A Seamless Addition to a Historic Home in Loveland

Blending old and new isn’t easy — but when done well, it’s nearly invisible. This recent project in Loveland, Colorado challenged our team to expand a historic brick home while preserving its original charm and structure.

Because the home falls within a designated historical area, we were required to stay true to the original architectural style. That meant everything from the siding to the rooflines had to match the existing home. Even so, part of the design process included making sure the addition was distinguishable — a requirement for historical work. We accomplished this by creating intentional transitions in both the flooring and exterior seams that subtly tell the story of what’s new and what’s original.

The Backyard View Pre-Addition

The remodel expanded the home’s footprint on both the main floor and the basement. On the main level, we transformed a compact two-bedroom, one-bath wing into a larger primary suite with a new walk-in closet and a spa-inspired bathroom. We left the second bedroom untouched. We also kept the hall bath in its original location but gave it a full update.

Downstairs, we created a new basement bedroom with built-in storage, a full living area, and a mudroom to connect the home’s rear entrance to the staircase — making the space more functional without compromising the character of the house.

This project is a great example of thoughtful, respectful remodeling that adds modern comfort while honoring the past.
