At Associates in Building + Design, we believe that a well-designed home should work for its occupants, not the other way around. One of our recent projects highlights this principle through a remodel that thoughtfully integrates both aesthetic details and functionality to meet the needs of the entire family. This project involved a full kitchen renovation, along with updates to the primary bathroom, with a focus on customized solutions that reflect the clients’ unique lifestyle.
Creating a Spacious, Open Kitchen
The clients’ vision was clear: they wanted a large, open kitchen that complemented their existing floors while incorporating modern conveniences. The MSI quartz countertops provided both a durable and classic surface, ideal for a busy kitchen. We worked with Wellborn cabinets to offer ample storage space, including a specially designed cabinet for small appliances, keeping countertops free from clutter.
One standout feature of the kitchen is a dedicated coffee bar complete with its own sink. This element was custom-designed to meet the clients’ desire for a cozy yet functional space for their morning coffee routine. It’s a small but essential touch that reflects how every detail was chosen with the family’s preferences in mind.
This particular client chose to incorporate a cooktop on the island, a popular and functional feature that blends seamlessly into the open kitchen design. It showcases both modern trends and thoughtful planning to fit the client’s needs.

Primary Bathroom Remodel: Space and Style
Moving into the primary bathroom, one of the key requests was to expand the shower to accommodate the husband’s taller-than-average height. This resulted in a spacious, comfortable shower that blends both practicality and design. We used tiles from Daltile to create a sleek and contemporary look while mirroring the same countertops and cabinets from the kitchen, offering a cohesive design theme throughout the home.
Additionally, a second shower was designed with accessibility in mind for the couple’s child, who lives at home. While we prioritized function, we also added blue accent tiles to bring some personality and style to the space, creating a beautiful and accessible bathroom.

Key Takeaways

This project showcases several growing trends, including a renewed interest in natural wood tones and the use of two-tone cabinetry. The combination of wood and white cabinets is a timeless yet modern approach, bringing warmth and contrast to the kitchen. However, the true essence of this project lies in how it was adapted specifically for the clients, catering to their family’s needs in both big and small ways.
At the end of the day, while this project is representative of the common kitchen and bathroom remodels we handle, what makes it truly stand out is the personalized approach we took. From a coffee bar tailored to the clients’ morning routine to a bathroom designed with accessibility and comfort in mind, the details reflect our dedication to creating spaces that truly work for the people who live in them.
Our adaptability and commitment to making homes function for families—not the other way around—are what made this project a success, and we couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out.
