At Associates in Building + Design, we specialize in everything from custom home building and interior design to home remodels big and small. Not only do we meet all of your homebuilding needs, but we also bring our superior knowledge in design trends to life when we help you create your dream home in Northern Colorado. We recently had the opportunity to work on a kitchen custom home remodel for the King family and we’re excited to share the final results.

Above the counter on one wall, we installed a black and white backsplash with a unique Aztec pattern composed of different sized triangles. The crisp white background of the tile contrasts well with the matte, black-colored designs. Fun patterns are a great way to incorporate a design into your home that is original, yet the neutral colors make the design cohesive with the rest of the home. To learn more about how to play with patterns, visit one of our past blogs here. To keep the focus on the feature wall, we used a simple white subway tile backsplash throughout the rest of the kitchen.

The countertop stove we used has a gas burner and a stainless-steel frame. This frame and the black burners pair well together to create the unified, modern look we were trying to achieve in this room. We also used other black accents like the Delta faucet and Amerock cabinet hardware to help tie the space together. We chose to use a light gray countertop to add a contrasting color to the black and white features used around the rest of the room.

Attached to the kitchen is the open breakfast area. We kept this room minimalistic in décor, choosing to focus more on a handful of features instead. The dining table and chairs are a simple design made of natural wood that matches well with the hardwood flooring. The light fixture above the table is a modern linear light with unique cream-colored hanging pieces reminiscent of shells. The accents on the light match well with the dark wooden shades we used on the large, open windows throughout the kitchen and dining area.
